Matkahuolto’s all terminals and approx. 10 agents offer Western Union’s money transfer
services. With Western Union’s money transfer service, you can send funds safely to you loved
ones all over the world, such as a family member in need of financial support or a travelling
friend. Western Union is one of the world’s largest companies offering money transfer
services with nearly 350,000 Agent locations in over 200 countries and territories.
With Western Union, sending money is quick, easy and safe. The recipient can claim the money
within a few minutes of dispatch.* Recipients are not required to pay any charges.*

Using the service is easy
Sending money
- Go to your nearest Matkahuolto terminal or agent offering Western Union’s services. Use
the Agent
Location Finder to find your nearest outlet .
- Complete the ‘To Send Money’ form.
- Pay the amount to be sent to the agent and the service charge. Always present a valid proof of
identity when making the payment.
- The money transfer is carried out and registered in Western Union’s money transfer
system.
- When the transfer has been completed, you will be given a receipt with a 10-digit Money
Transfer Control Number (MTCN). After this, the money can be claimed by the recipient. The
recipient does not have to know the MTCN number. However, it is advisable to give it to the
recipient because the number makes it easier to find the transfer in the system. Additionally, some
countries require that the recipient present the MTCN number when claiming the money.
- The recipient may claim the money without identifying* the agent in the receiving country. The
recipient must fill out the *To Receive Money* form and present an ID to prove that he or she is
the correct recipient.
Claiming money
- Go to your nearest Matkahuolto terminal or agent offering Western Union’s services. Use

- Complete the ‘To Receive Money’ form by providing the requested information:
country from which the money has been sent, sender’s name, amount sent and the MTCN number
(Money Transfer Control Number) which makes it easier to find the transfer in the system.
- Present a valid ID to prove that you are the recipient. If you do not have a valid ID, you have
to answer a test question. If so, you have to show a copy of your report to the police concerning
your lost ID. The report may not be older than two months.
- Sign the form and take the money.
