The Regional Ticket is a highly affordable ticket product offered by the local and central
government and operators. As long as the ticket is valid, the holder can travel on all the buses
operating in the area and make any number of transfers without any restrictions. However, special
operator-specific charges may apply, such as express fare or night-rate or an extra charge for
pram.
The Regional Ticket is loaded onto the Matkahuolto
Travel Card and may be used right away. Travel time is purchased in chunks of 30 days except that
the maximum travel time on the card 59 days.
Regional Tickets are available from Matkahuolto and its agents. An official ID card is
required for the purchase of the ticket. After the first purchase, the ticket can be reloaded at
Matkahuolto outlets, agent outlets and on busses. If you wish to reload the ticket on a bus, it is
advisable to do so outside rush hours.
A price of € 6.50 is charged for the Travel Card when you purchase your first Regional
Ticket. The card price will not be refunded. The Travel Card has a service life of 3 years after
which it will have to be replaced by a new card.

The Regional Ticket is the most inexpensive means of payment if you use local public
transport services regularly and the distance travelled is over 6 km. Compared with other ticket
options, a regular traveller saves about 20% but in some cases savings of up to 50% are possible.
The Regional Ticket is personal and valid for all buses and taxis offering a public transport
service. When using the Regional Ticket instead of a car, a frequent traveller may save up to
hundreds of euros per month.
Timetables on the web and from the nationwide timetable inquiries service
The timetable for all the express, regular and local bus services are available on
Matkahuolto’s web site. The system includes information on 20,000 services that pass more
than 14,000 designated bus stops. Increasingly, the timetable service also offers information on
local traffic services as new data is being added to the system.
Timetable information on all the 40,000 services is available from the nationwide timetable
inquiries service at 0200 4000 (€ 1.70 per minute + local network charge). Advice is
available on business days 8-19.
