City Card

mh_kaupunkikortti_0704_pieni_rgbThe first city card system introduced in Finland has now been used for over 10 years. Based on Matkahuolto's card system, it makes use of a "multiservice" smart card. Using the card, residents in Rovaniemi are able to purchase bus fares, teachers can pay for schools meals and pupils for school trips, snacks and admission charges to swimming pools. Additionally, the Rovaniemi Card can be used to buy a season or annual admission ticket to the local swimming pool.

At the same time, the City Card serves as a library card and charge card for paying health centre charges and taxi fares. Matkahuolto's smart card can also be to pay parking fees.
A similar city card system based on Matkahuolto's smart card and its clearing system has been introduced by Seinäjoki and Nurmo.
