Finnish buses and coaches offer a safe, affordable and environmentally friendly way of commuting
and travelling in your free time. The network, which covers the whole country, ensures efficient
connections to destinations all over Finland. A comfortable ride is ensured by fully equipped
high-standard coaches. Accurate scheduling guarantees smooth coordination with other modes of
public transport, with local buses completing the range of services. Regular international bus
services are also available.
Oy Matkahuolto Ab is a pioneer in developing ticketing, fare collection and timetable
information systems for travelling in Finland and abroad. In fact, its travel card system is unique
in the world in that it is safe, flexible, easy to use, based on an open technological standard,
and platform-independent. Currently, Matkahuolto's cards are accepted by more than 400 private bus
fleet operators and taxi companies. About 500,000 Matkahuolto card transactions are recorded every
day.
Matkahuolto's travel card is a smart card that can also be used for making other payments in
addition to bus fares. The City Card is a prime example of the versatile uses that Matkahuolto's
travel card can be put to. For instance, the City Card serves as a library card and can be used to
pay for a number of municipal services, such as swimming pool admission charges, parking fees,
school meals, and disabled transport services.
Nationwide ticket products that can be loaded on the travel card include annual and stored
value tickets and a pass specifically tailored for holiday touring called the Bus Pass.
Additionally, Matkahuolto's product range includes hundreds of area-specific season tickets, such
as regional and commuter tickets. Matkahuolto has also developed customised ticket products for the
needs of cities and municipalities as well as other local and central government agencies.
