Supplementary insurance coverage

We recommend taking out supplementary insurance coverage for valuable consignments. Any damage to a consignment insured with supplementary coverage will be indemnified under Cargo Insurance, Terms and Conditions KU 05, 1 October 2008, Full Cover.

The insurance is valid in Finland starting from the time when the consignment is accepted for carriage up until the time when it is handed over to the consignee. The insurance only covers single-package consignments. The insurance also covers the immediate return of the consignment in cases where it cannot, for one reason or another, be delivered to the consignee.

In supplementary coverage, the basis of indemnity is the value shown on the shop receipt for the goods + transport charges or fair value of the goods + transport charges.

The maximum compensation is EUR 1,700 / consignment. There is no deductible associated with the insurance.

The charge for supplementary coverage is EUR 8.50 / consignment. The transport and insurance charges for a consignment with supplementary insurance coverage are always paid by the consignor, with the consignor also being named as the beneficiary.

Supplementary coverage may be taken out for all consignments sent from Matkahuolto, Siwa, Valintatalo or Euromarket outlets, or any other Matkahuolto Parcel Points.

Supplementary coverage may also be taken out for ADR consignments, and it may also comprise special handling as an additional service. A consignment with supplementary coverage may also include home delivery to the consignee.

The payment of any indemnity for an insured consignment requires that the amount of damage incurred can be substantiated. Any externally visible damage must be reported in writing before acknowledging the receipt of the goods. Hidden damage must be reported in writing within seven (7) days of the date when the goods were handed over. The beneficiary must file a claim for damages with Matkahuollolto in writing within one month of the occurrence.

A consignment with supplementary insurance coverage must be sufficiently and adequately packed. Supplementary coverage may not be taken out for cash, securities, precious metals, jewellery made of precious metals, pearls, jewels, works of art, or living animals. The supplementary insurance coverage does not cover the loss of or damage to the goods insured caused by delay.

More detailed exclusions are specified in Pohjola Cargo Insurance, Terms and Conditions KU 05, under section KU 7 Exclusions.
